I have been getting REALLY into electronic music since my senior year of high school , i mean i dabbled throughout the years but until then i never was pro active about it. Reading about some of Davey's(from AFI) influences and exploring them back then led me to really get into them (APOP, VNV Nation, Covenant, etc). I Always have been a fan of Depeche Mode and growing up I had siblings that were into them. Since Blaqk Audio has come out and reading all these interviews with people bringing up about Depeche Mode a 100 times. In my listening to CexCells i was saddened that it was only Depeche Mode people were comparing them to. Davey explains it best, I was reading an recent interview with Davey and Jade, and Davey had to throw down a bit on a Genre-ignorant lady who was interviewing them. Cause she said what most people who are ignorant to the electronic/synth-pop genre. She brought up their "similarities" (and yes there are similarities...CAUSE THEY ARE IN THE SAME GENRE OF MUSIC) to Depeche Mode because they are one of the only well known synth-pop groups that happened 20 years ago everyone has the need to compare them like it was some kind of phenomenon. I like Depeche Mode and all but THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER SYNTH-POP BANDS THAN DEPECHE MODE (Blaqk Audio being one of them)!
Electrocia/synth-pop is a genre of music which means all groups IN that genre will have common elements, just like punk is a genre of music so all punk bands have common elements that make their music punk.
here is the snippet of the interview, read it, its good!

One of the things that struck me while listening to CexCells was how reminiscent of Depeche Mode this album sounded; certainly "Stiff Kittens", the album's lead track and first single, is clearly suggestive of the Synth-Pop, iconic band.
"It seems to be a comparison that comes from people who are unfamiliar with electronic music," Davey said when I broached the subject, "And whose point of reference is simply the largest piece of mainstream Synth-Pop that happened years ago. Certainly there are moments that link to that and certainly we both love Depeche Mode; but for people who are familiar with electronica and with what's been going on since 1984, it's pretty rare that they will make that comparison. They see points of it, just like everyone else; but I mean they aren't ones to say: Oh My God, you sound like Depeche Mode. There are other reference points that are more accurate."
Coming to the defense of those who are as genre-ignorant as I apparently am, Jade added: "I think a lot of it too, is the low voice; Davey sings with a higher voice in AFI. But if you listen to electronic music and all the Synth-Pop bands, it's kind of a function of that style of music. People don't sing high and almost everyone sings in that low tone of voice."
Hoping my burning red cheeks didn't betray too much embarrassment, I took a deep breath and changed the subject: "How is it to be starting a new band now that you've been established with AFI for so long?"
